The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health is offering an exciting career opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join its team as Assistant Director: Finance (Conditional Grant) at the King Cetshwayo District Office in Empangeni.

Who Should Apply?

You’re a strong candidate if you have:

  • A Matric Certificate / Grade 12

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Cost and Management Accounting, or a related field

  • 3–5 years’ supervisory experience in public service financial administration

  • Hands-on experience in budgeting, expenditure reporting, voucher control, revenue, and accounts payable

  • A valid driver’s licence

  • Experience in managing conditional grants (an added advantage)

Skills That Will Set You Apart

  • In-depth knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and government financial prescripts

  • Confidence working with BAS, PERSAL, and Vulindlela systems

  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation abilities

  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines

Your Impact in This Role

As Assistant Director: Finance (Conditional Grant), you will:

  • Drive the preparation and consolidation of HIV and AIDS conditional grant business plans

  • Track and analyse grant expenditure to ensure funds are used effectively

  • Compile insightful monthly financial and variance reports

  • Provide hands-on financial support to district health facilities

  • Ensure full compliance with grant conditions and audit requirements

  • Work closely with programme managers, HR, pharmacy managers, and facility leadership

  • Support the correct allocation of ARV medicines and essential commodities

  • Perform reconciliations, journal reviews, and other key finance functions
